Chapter 6: College Committees & Advisory Councils

Purpose

The General Education Committee shall monitor internally all courses within the General Education Program and ensure that the courses satisfy the goals and measurable outcomes for each category established by the TBR General Education requirements. More specifically, the responsibilities of the Committee include:

  • Developing a methodology for evaluating and recommending that courses do satisfy the general education requirements,
  • Recommending courses satisfying the general education requirements,
  • Coordinating with the Curriculum Subcommittee to assure all general education requirements are met for all degree programs,
  • Developing assessment strategies for each category of the general education core requirements, and
  • Assisting the Vice President for Academic Affairs with the program assessment of general education by documenting outcomes. 

Membership

The Committee shall represent the faculty as a whole and report directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

  1. Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Humanities, Co-chairs
  2. Academic Deans(6):
    1. Behavioral and Social Sciences Division
    2. Health Professions Division
    3. Humanities Division
    4. Mathematics Division
    5. Science Division
    6. Technologies Division
  3. Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs Programs and Services, Non-voting
  4. Assistant Vice President for Multi-Campus Programs, Non-voting
  5. Assistant Vice President for Research, Analytics, and Planning, Non-voting
  6. Dean of the Library, Non-voting
  7. Faculty (7): appointed by the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Members of the committee shall serve two-year terms.
    1. Faculty (1) from the Faculty Senate
    2. Faculty (1) in the  Behavioral and Social Sciences Division
    3. Faculty (1) in the  Health Professions Division
    4. Faculty (1) in the  Humanities Division
    5. Faculty (1) in the  Mathematics Division
    6. Faculty (1) in the  Science Division
    7. Faculty (1) in the Technologies Division
  8. Coordinator of Testing Services, Non-voting
  9. Vice President for Institutional Excellence and Student Success, Non-voting
