Purpose 

Northeast State Community College is a tobacco-free institution with smoking and tobacco use prohibited, except for areas in parking lots, which are at least 50 feet away from any facility entrance. 

The policy applies to all campus facilities and grounds owned or leased by the institution and to all students, faculty, staff and visitors. Tobacco use is also prohibited in all state vehicles. This tobacco-free policy is in effect 24 hours a day, year-round. The sale of any products containing tobacco is prohibited on all property owned or controlled by the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) and its institutions.

For the purposes of this policy, “tobacco use” includes, but is not limited to, the personal use of any tobacco product, whether intended to be lit or not, which shall include smoking tobacco or other substances that are lit and smoked, as well as the use of an electronic cigarette or any other device intended to simulate smoking and the use of smokeless tobacco, including snuff; chewing tobacco; smokeless pouches; any form of loose-leaf, smokeless tobacco; and the use of unlit cigarettes, cigars, and pipe tobacco.

Support

Understanding the addictive nature of tobacco products, Northeast State Community College will make every effort to assist those who may wish to stop using tobacco. Employees may obtain smoking cessation information by contacting the College’s Human Resource Department.  

Compliance 

Student violations should be reported to the Northeast State Police Department or Vice President for Institutional Excellence and Student Success. 

Employee violations should be reported to immediate supervisor and Human Resources. 

Student and employee violations will be managed on a case-by-case basis.
