President's Student Leadership Academy Application

Leaders aren't always born; sometimes they are formed.

Enhance your employability-- or the chances of being accepted at a four-year institution--by participating in NESCC's prestigious year-round President's Student Leadership Academy.
Application deadline is October 5.

Identify your individual leadership traits, learn how to manage conflict productively, develop critical thinking and decision-making skill and enhance your communication skills.

To be considered for the Student Leadership Academy, you must:

  1. Be enrolled in an associate degree program at NeSCC.
  2. Have clearly demonstrated leadership potential, maturity, and the willingness to accept responsibility in your classes/organizations.
  3. Complete an application with 2 references, or be nominated by a NeSCC faculty, staff or administrator.
  4. A competitive applicant typically has a 3.0 or better GPA.
Enrollment is limited! If applications exceed available slots, interviews will be conducted

Your Commitment The SLA will require a commitment of time and effort on your part. You will be expected to...
  1. attend and actively participate in all the scheduled sessions.
  2. contact Jane Honeycutt regarding any absence and make up any session that you may have to miss due to unforeseen circumstances.
  3. complete a professional portfolio
  4. serve as a positive ambassador for NeSCC in all that you say and do.
    • Sessions will be devoted to identifying your particular leadership traits and style and developing skills in these areas: conflict resolution, critical thinking and decision-making, communication, leadership ethics, team building and collaboration, and dealing with difficult people.
    • Speakers from NeSCC and the business community will present sessions on socio-cultural issues and other relevant leadership topics.
    • PSLA Session Dates: first-semester meeting dates are October 26 and Nov. 16 from 8:30 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. Enter these dates on your calendar pending your selection. Second-semester dates will be determined in consultation with those selected as PSLA 2012-2013 participants.
